Publicada por vez primera en Gran Bretaña en 1881 y, debido a su éxito, traducida nueve años después al francés, Autobiografía de una pulga permanecía aún inédita en castellano. Su aparición en España, más de un siglo después,  viene a enriquecer el panorama de la literatura erótica victoriana, de la que Tusquets Editores ha sacado a la luz ya tres de las más importantes obras, dos de ellas también anónimas: Mi vida secreta (2 vols.), La novela de la lujuria y Mi vida y amores (4 vols.), de Frank Harris (La sonrisa vertical 8-9, 64 y 27).   Como las citadas obras clásicas, además de un ingenioso planteamiento, Autobiografía de una pulga posee todos los elementos que caracterizan a la novela erótica inglesa de finales del siglo XIX: cándidas jovencitas, damas que engañan a sus maridos, clérigos sin escrúpulos y hazañas eróticas desmesuradas.   Ésta es la historia de una pulga, o mejor dicho, de todo lo que esa pulga ve desde el memorable día en que escogió para vivir la nívea pierna de Bella, una encantadora e inocente jovencita que acudía a la iglesia acompañada de su tía. Con la avidez de un voyeur, la pulga asistirá a la iniciación de Bella en el arte amatorio con su amigo Charlie. Pero, ay, sorprendidos por el cura confesor -el padre Ambrose-, éste ofrecerá a la joven, a modo de penitencia, la oportunidad de convertirse en la“elegida”para saciar los santos deseos del sacerdote. A partir de este encuentro de Bella con el padre Ambrose, la lascivia de la joven, de incipiente voluptuosidad, se desboca: decidida a disfrutar de esos placeres recién descubiertos, no parará hasta implicar a su tío. Fiel a Bella, la pulga seguirá las andanzas de tío, sobrina y confesor, que se dedican a pervertir, juntos o separados, a cuantas personas se les antojan deseables, mientras, en un crescendo, se suceden las escenas más lúbricas y desaforadas de la literatura erótica.   Así, utilizando en su narración el ingenuo punto de vista de una pulga, el desconocido autor de esta Autobiografía describe con asombrosa libertad las lujurias y perversidades más prohibidas por la estricta moral victoriana, al tiempo que arremete contra la hipocresía de la Iglesia y las costumbres sexuales de la época.
